Tunisia: What Lies Ahead?

Thursday, April 1, 2010
Noon – 1 pm
Middle East Institute
1761 N St. NW
Washington, DC 20036

The Middle East Institute and the American Tunisian Association are proud to host Jerry Sorkin, president of TunisUSA, for a talk about his many perspectives regarding Tunisia. This North African country has been applauded by foreign dignitaries for its many achievements, including its progressive family and gender laws. But it is no secret that Tunisia also has its critics who state that democratic reforms are too slow in coming. In October 2009, Tunisia held elections which resulted in the fifth consecutive five-year term for President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Sorkin will attempt to provide insight into what lies ahead for Tunisia in the coming five years.

BIO:
Jerry Sorkin is the president of TunisUSA, a tour company specializing in the organization of cultural tours that emphasize cross-cultural bridge-building for academic and affinity groups in Tunisia, Turkey, Iran and the central Middle East. He has received awards from the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce and Conde Nast Traveler magazine for his creative marketing efforts in branding Tunisia as a culturally enriching destination. Sorkin is also a former adjunct lecturer in the University of Pennsylvania's College of General Studies.

Because of the popularity of MEI programs and limited seating, MEI anticipates a capacity audience for the program.  MEI wishes to accommodate all registered guests but will give MEI members and supporters priority seating.  We encourage you to become an MEI member if you wish to avoid sitting in the overflow room. Early arrival for all is encouraged.
