Organized by the SQCC, World Learning and the University of Nizwa, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center/Summer Arabic Language and Media (SQCC/SALAM) Program at the University of Nizwa runs June 3 - July 21, 2010.

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center (SQCC) and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) are pleased to announce the SQCC Research Fellowship Program. The Program, open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents, supports research in 1) traditional Omani music and 2) date palm cultivation, industry, and date and palm tree byproducts, for doctoral candidates and scholars who have already earned their Ph.D. Applicants are eligible to apply as individuals or in teams.

Overview
Two awards up to 20,000 Omani Riyals (approximately $52,015.66) will be given out to scholars who wish to conduct research in Oman on 1) the traditional music of Oman or 2) Omani date palm cultivation, industry, and date and palm tree byproducts. Proposals that seek links or comparisons between the US and Oman are desirable; up to one month of the proposed four-month project may be for used for composing publication of results.
All applicants must:
- Be a US citizen or permanent resident,
- Be a doctoral candidate currently enrolled in good standing at an US institution or a scholar holding a PhD or equivalent degree, and
- Propose a four-month individual or team research project in Oman on the traditional music of Oman or Omani date palm cultivation.
Grantees must:
- Complete a research project as outlined in his/her project statement,
- Start the project no later than December 31, 2010,
- Publish a journal article, book chapter, or conference paper within one year of completing the project, and
- Endeavor to create professional contacts with Omani scholars and institutions to help strength US-Oman connections and share experience with colleagues and peers.
