Summary

The Middle East Institute (MEI) is seeking to hire a full-time managing editor to oversee the day-to-day production of content for MEI’s Policy Center. Applicants should have at least five years of professional experience writing and editing in English with a focus on international affairs or foreign policy, preferably on the Middle East. The managing editor will work in close conjunction with MEI’s editorial director and should be based in the Washington, DC area.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the day-to-day production of content for MEI’s Policy Center
  • Editing a wide variety of content, including blog posts, articles, policy memos, and papers
  • Managing MEI’s editorial calendar and Pipeline document
  • Reviewing submissions in conjunction with subject matter experts
  • Corresponding with scholars and contributors
  • Laying out and publishing content 
  • Handling associated paperwork 
  • Overseeing other members of the editorial team, including interns

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum of five years of experience editing and proofreading 
  • Familiarity with Middle East policy issues
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects to deadline while maintaining high editorial standards
  • Knowledge of relevant regional languages (especially Arabic) and AP style is a plus
  • Experience using content management systems or Adobe Creative Suite is highly preferred
