Recent Israeli attacks on Hezbollah may be the largest security breach in the militant group’s history and have raised the specter of a looming all-out war between the two sides. Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, said the attacks crossed a "red line" and vowed retaliation. Israel has not commented directly on the attacks, but Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a "new phase" of the war. With spiraling tensions in the region, is Lebanon becoming the new theater for war?

MEI scholars assess the events and circumstances that led to the detonations as well as the broader regional ramifications of the latest escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.
