Please join us on Friday, September 18th, from 5:30-7:30pm for the public opening of the MEI Art Gallery’s latest exhibition, El Marsam: Modern and Contemporary Art from Egypt.
This exhibition traces nearly a century of Egyptian art, bringing together more than 40 works by pioneering modernists such as Mahmoud Said and Inji Efflatoun alongside celebrated contemporary artists including Youssef Nabil and Sherin Guirguis. Drawn from private Egyptian collections, leading galleries, and the American University in Cairo, the exhibition includes generous loans from Naguib Sawiris and Mona Barakat, as well as several other private Egyptian collectors. For many of these works, this will be their first showing in the United States.
Lead funding for El Marsam comes from Naguib Sawiris, who has also generously loaned artworks to the exhibition. Major funding is provided by Hassan Allam and David and Gretchen Welch. The exhibition is also generously supported by Demi Angelakis Pearson and John Pearson, Teresa Barger, and Habib Gorgi.
