About the Arts & Culture Center

The Middle East Institute’s Arts & Culture Center advances cultural understanding through exhibitions, performances, and public programs that spotlight the region’s creative voices and build meaningful connections across communities. The Center pursues three core priorities:

  • Advancing cultural diplomacy by fostering international cultural exchange and creating platforms for dialogue between Middle Eastern and American artists, authors, and institutions.
  • Showcasing Middle Eastern voices through curated exhibitions in the MEI Art Gallery that highlight the region’s leading and emerging artists, bringing critical perspectives to Washington and national audiences.
  • Expanding cultural programming that demonstrates the power of the arts to inform, heal, and connect — from performances and literary events to interdisciplinary festivals that engage diverse communities.

Through this work, the Arts & Culture Center serves as a vital hub for cultural engagement, offering spaces where creativity sparks conversation, fosters empathy, and deepens understanding of the Middle East’s rich artistic landscape.
