Dr. Yigal Kipnis, an Israeli author, geographer, historian, and leading expert on the Israeli-Syrian conflict over the Golan Heights will discuss the current state of Israeli settlements on the Golan, and related topics.

Dr. Kipnis, a resident of the Golan Heights, had served as a pilot in the Israeli Air Force and Reserves for 31 years.  He published a book on the Golan conflict, which is currently available in Hebrew, “The Mountain That Was As a Monster” (The Hebrew University Magnes Press Ltd., July 2009).  The book explores the gaps between myth and reality that stand in the way of a peace agreement. Dr. Kipnis is now a research fellow at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
