George Visan is a Black Sea Security Program Coordinator at the Romanian Energy Center (ROEC), focusing primarily on Black Sea security infrastructure in the aftermath of the Ukrainian crisis. His areas of expertise at ROEC include military affairs, naval policy, European and international security and NATO.
George has contributed to several Romanian and international publications and organizations, including ’22’ weekly magazine, Foreign Policy Romania, Jamestown Foundation, Al Jazeera Center for Studies and Diario de Noticias. George was previously an assistant political analyst for the Limited Electoral Observation Mission of the OSCE/ODIHR in Romania. He also co-founded civitaspolitics.org, a platform for analysis of Romanian politics and international affairs.
As with the rest of the world, COVID-19 is likely to wreak havoc across the Black Sea region in a very short period of time. With the outbreak projected to peak in April or May – and with some predicting the pandemic will last two years and infect 60 to 70 percent of the global population – it is difficult to fathom the potential consequences for this region.
