MEI is a private, non-profit, nonpartisan institution working for improved understanding and better policy between the people of the Middle East and the United States, and in the general interest of peace, human security, prosperity and better governance. MEI is not affiliated or aligned with any domestic or foreign political party, institution or government.
MEI accepts funding from a broad range of sources provided it is consistent with MEI’s mission. All these sources are publicly listed on MEI’s website and, as a registered U.S. 501(c)(3) organization, MEI makes public its annual audited financial information, IRS Form 990, full financial statements, and annual reports. MEI does not engage in lobbying activity and complies fully with all applicable federal, state and local laws.
MEI is very grateful for the support it receives that makes its research, policy, educational and cultural work possible. MEI accepts two kinds of support: General unrestricted contributions; and programmatic support for specific projects. In the latter case, donations are accepted only if the proposed program or project is also in line with MEI’s core mission. In all cases MEI retains full intellectual independence for itself and its scholars as relates to the content of its work.
