The Middle East Institute is pleased to invite you to a special screening of the critically acclaimed documentary For Sama (2019) to celebrate its 5th anniversary. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers and activists Waad al-Kateab, Hamza al-Kateab and Hazem Riwahi. MEI's Charles Lister will moderate the discussion.

For Sama is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her.

The film screening and panel will take place at the Middle East Institute's Headquarters, located at 1763 N St NW, Washington, D.C., 20036. Kindly note the agenda below.
