The Middle East Institute and Arabian Sights are pleased to co-host a film screening of Zinzana (United Arab Emirates, 2015) starring Saleh Bakri and Ali Suliman.
Talal (Saleh Bakri) awakes in a police cell with no memory of the night before and no identification. His predicament worsens with the arrival of brilliant psychopath Dabaan (Ali Suliman), who seems determined to play perplexing, and vicious, mind games with him. Talal's confinement becomes a fight for survival and a race to discover exactly what is motivating Dabaan. Built upon two brilliant performances, Zinzana is a taut thriller filled with outrageous twists and bursts of aggression. The process of discovery into Dabaan's plan is darkly comical, and each nail-biting sequence adds wonderfully to the suspense. With ambitious camerawork and a delightful musical interlude, the film is a discovery unlike any other.
The film is in Arabic with English subtitles.
