Ashley Leichner is a Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer with International Medical Corps based in the Washington, D.C. office. At International Medical Corps, Ashley focuses on MHPSS global and research projects, including mental health and primary health care integration and mental health case management. Prior to joining International Medical Corps in August 2013, Ashley worked in Uganda as a George Washington University Global Health Service Fellow at The AIDS Support Organisation, in addition to being a teaching assistant for the Global Mental Health course at George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. Ashley received her MPH in 2010 from George Washington University in global health program design, implementation, and monitoring.
Addressing Mental Health Needs among Syrian Refugees
Sana managed to escape the violence in Syria by making her way to Lebanon, but now she is alone and suffering from mood swings. She is battling eviction threats from her landlord due to her disruptive and erratic behavior. Mahmoud, another Syrian refugee in Jordan, is experiencing increasing feelings of depression, worried that he can no longer provide for his wife and three children, two of whom have learning disabilities.
