Dr. Muller has held several university appointments, including Hunter College of the City University of New York, the University of Maryland, the College of New Jersey, Rutgers University, and the Defense Language Institute, and was executive vice president of the National Council on Foreign Language and International Studies. He is a retired Colonel in the US Army Civil Affairs Corps and has also served with the Civilian Response Corps.

Aspects of this issue range across research, polemics, and litigation in attempts to document loss, return treasures, or on the other hand prevent restitution or repatriation. Richardson properly decries cultural looting, but we must distinguish among causes to reach agreement on protective steps.
