Mounir Ibrahim is a former Foreign Service officer with the U.S. Department of State and key adviser to several ambassadors. Mounir served in a variety of posts, including as a U.S. diplomat in Syria from 2010 to 2011 and at the U.S. Mission to the U.N. from 2015 to 2017.

    Ten years ago this week, at the American embassy in Damascus, we heard of the first anti-government protest through a quiet whisper in the diplomatic community.
