Carl Rommel recently earned an MA in Migration and Diaspora Studies from the Department of Anthropology at SOAS, University of London. His MA dissertation, from which this essay is adapted, was based on fieldwork among Assyrian and Syriac football fans in Södertälje, Sweden.
