Lisa Wedeen is Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago. She is the author of Ambiguities of Domination: Politics, Rhetoric, and Symbols in Contemporary Syria (1999) and Peripheral Visions: Publics, Power, and Performances in Yemen (2008).
