Mona Abu Shanif is interested in Gulf affairs and has worked at several Emirati and Middle Eastern think tanks. Her research is interdisciplinary in nature, blending comparative politics with strategic studies. More specifically, she focuses on the impact of domestic state/society transformations on national security policies in Middle Eastern countries.
