The Middle East Institute is pleased to invite you to a fireside chat with H.E. Haneen Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Lebanon, moderated by MEI Senior Fellow, Dr. Fadi Nicholas Nassar.
The country has never had more at stake or less room for failure. On the one hand, a newly agreed, fragile cease-fire promises to be the first step that finally leads Lebanon out of the current war. But on the other, mass destruction and displacement, years of unresolved economic crisis, and fractured public trust have left the Lebanese state severely tested and its people demanding nothing short of what they deserve: sovereignty, reform, and prosperity. Yet Lebanon enters this moment with something it has long been denied: a government with a genuine mandate to lead, unprecedented international goodwill, and a population whose determination to chart a new future has never been stronger.
How Lebanon seizes this opening, delivers for its most vulnerable, drives recovery and reconstruction rooted in state leadership, and rebuilds the trust of its citizens and the international community are among the most urgent questions facing the region. The role of the United States and international partners in supporting that effort has never mattered more.
This event will take place in-person at the Middle East Institute. Please note that registration is required, and seating is limited.
