About the Library

Located in a renovated carriage house connected to MEI’s headquarters by a scenic courtyard, the Oman Library supports the Institute’s mission by facilitating research and information sharing on all aspects of the broader Middle East. Recognizing the vital role that libraries such as MEI’s play in advancing Middle East research and scholarship, the Government of Oman established a library endowment in 2010, ensuring the library’s continued growth and public accessibility. It houses more than 20,000 books and periodicals devoted to the region, organized according to the Library of Congress classification system. Visitors will find materials in English as well as in regional languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish, and Persian. Subjects represented include the culture, history, languages, literature, and politics of the Middle East, the Islamic world, and related regions.
