The ongoing Iran war has exposed the vulnerability of United States military installations and key infrastructure in the Middle East to the full array of Iranian threats, including asymmetric tactics. As the United States reassesses its strategic priorities and defense posture in the region, it will need to account for its current offensive and defensive deficits, including when it comes to addressing enemy use of irregular warfare. This will both better prepare the US military for future conflicts and promote increased coordination among partner nations.

To discuss Iranian use of asymmetric or indirect tactics and how the US should respond, the Middle East Institute will host an on-the-record webinar on June 2, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM ET, featuring Mick Crnkovich and Andrew Whiskeyman. Crnkovich is a former Director for Irregular Warfare in the Pentagon’s Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC). Dr. Whiskeyman, a retired US Army Colonel, last served as chief of the Information Operations Division (J39) at US Central Command and is currently the CEO of Quo Vadis and JASSA Professional Services as well as a non-resident senior fellow at the Global and National Security Institute.
