How the 2026 Iran War Is Reshaping US Foreign Policy

April 14 - 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

ندوة عبر الإنترنت على Zoom

With Operation Epic Fury now in its second month, the United States is seemingly accomplishing most of its tactical objectives against Iran, but the strategic aims remain unmet and increasingly diverge from how the conflict is upturning and reshaping the region. For a discussion of the Iran war’s possible long-term impact on the geopolitics of the Middle East, the durability of US regional partnerships, and the sharpening internal debate about America’s preferred role in the world, the Middle East Institute invites you to join a webinar on Tuesday, April 14, at 10:00 AM ET.

The virtual expert panel will include Mr. David Schenker, former Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and Dr. Mara Karlin, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Plans, and Capabilities. MEI Senior Fellow, Mr. Brian Katulis, will moderate.

Speakers

Mr. David Schenker is the Taube Senior Fellow at The Washington Institute and director of the Linda and Tony Rubin Program on Arab Politics. He served as Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs through January 2021.

Dr. Mara Karlin served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Plans, and Capabilities, leading the development and implementation of the 2022 National Defense Strategy, Nuclear Posture Review, and Missile Defense Review, the first time all major strategies were conducted simultaneously.

Mr. Brian Katulis (Moderator) is a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute, specializing in US foreign policy and national security.
