The impact of climate change throughout the Middle East touches on every aspect of society from food and water security to migration to employment and economic stability. Moreover, the Middle East’s population is overwhelmingly young, and the input and leadership of its rising generation will be key to mitigating the region’s climate emergency. MEI is pleased to host a group of young scholars from across the MENA region to discuss their work and their perspectives on the current and future environmental crises in the Middle East.

What are the current environmental threats to the region, and how could they worsen in the years to come? What do external actors in the United States and Europe miss in this conversation? How can local organizations and activists be centered more meaningfully?
