Mustafa Naji is a former Yemeni diplomat and a researcher in the field of social studies. He holds a master’s degree in francophone literature from Paris VIII, then majored in public administration and graduated from the National School of Administration in France. His research pays close attention to the social and political transformation processes in Yemen. He has produced several forward-looking studies, as well as intellectual, literary, and historical translations in French and Arabic. Mustafa is currently preparing a doctorate degree.

With the international community viewing the latest “de-escalation roadmap” as paving the way for yet another transitional power-sharing agreement in an effort to “end” Yemen’s protracted conflict, it is useful to review how the Houthis have navigated past partnerships to understand how things may play out in the future.
As long as weapons transfers to armed non-state actors are not adequately restricted and the monopoly of violence is not exclusively in the hands of the government, it will be impossible to build sustainable peace in Yemen.
