Dr. Zakir Husain is a Research Fellow at Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi. He is a political economist. His research focus is Middle East, South Asia and the role of major powers. Before joining the ICWA, Dr. Husain was associated with the National Labour Institute (NLI), International Labor Organization (ILO), Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and National Maritime Foundation (NMF), a Delhi-based think tank of the Indian Navy. Dr. Zakir has also offered consultancy to IOM, EU, E&Y, etc. He has been a visiting scholar in China, the United States, Syria, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia In February-March 2017, Dr. Husain led a high-power delegation to Saudi Arabia to conduct the 5th India-Saudi Arabia Workshop. In May 2015, Dr. Husain visited United States under the International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP). His research is currently focused on Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. His publications include Saudi Arabia in a Multipolar World: Changing Dynamics (Routledge, 2016); Tibet and India’s Security: Himalayan Region, Refugees and Sino-Indian Relations (co-authored, IDSA, 2009); and GCC Going Nuclear: Responses and Implications (under review).
